Tamara Hinton (202) 225-0184
WASHINGTON – This week during The Ag Minute, Ranking Member Frank Lucas discusses how important it is to the agriculture community for Congress to pass the Resolution of Disapproval, which would block the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from imposing harsh regulations on the American people.

"The introduction of the Senate climate bill may have been delayed, but the issue of cap and trade is still front and center.
"And, the threat of the Environmental Protection Agency acting without Congress grows every day.
"Just last week, news reports have the White House climate czar saying that the EPA is prepared to regulate greenhouse gases with or without Congress – with or without legislation.
"This approach is contrary to the spirit of the law and the process of representative government.
"This threat makes it all the more urgent for Congress to pass the resolution of disapproval that blocks the EPA from imposing harsh and unnecessary regulations on the American people.
"I joined more than 130 of my colleagues and co-sponsored this bipartisan effort (H.J. Res 77, H.J. Res 76) to let Congress do its job without being bullied by a federal agency that operates without any accountability to the American people. This effort is also supported by more than 150 agriculture groups.
"Our nation is built on a system of checks and balances. Congress should be able to debate legislation that will have a significant impact on the American people without fear of the EPA. Further, the EPA is supposed to implement the laws Congress creates. It does not have the authority to act in the absence of legislation."
The Ag Minute is Ranking Member Lucas's weekly radio address that is released every week from the House Agriculture Committee Republicans.
