WASHINGTON – This week during The Ag Minute, guest host Rep. Bill Cassidy, a member of the House Agriculture Committee, highlights the need for Congress to pass real health care reform that lowers costs, provides all Americans with access to quality care, and empowers patients. Rep. Cassidy is a practicing physician in Louisiana and co-founder of the Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic, which provides free health care to the working uninsured through an innovative approach that partners patients with doctors who provide care free of charge.

"Last Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced a 2,000 page health care bill, and plans to pass it Friday.
"Americans have one week to understand a bill with significant consequences for your health care and one-sixth of our economy.
"Everyone wants health reform that lowers costs and gives all Americans access to quality care.
"Unfortunately, this bill does not do so.
"It does create 111 new boards, bureaucracies, and programs, raises taxes by $730 billion, increases federal spending by a trillion dollars, and, worse, it increases health care costs.
"We can do better.
"Republican reforms lower costs by empowering patients, decreasing the power of bureaucracy.
"Our proposals give you direct control over your health care dollars and give you the information you need to make wise health care decisions.
