WASHINGTON, D.C. - On May 2, 2007, the House Agriculture Committee held a public hearing to investigate the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s recent announcement that it released the Social Security Numbers of more than 38,000 USDA program participants. The numbers were publicly available on the internet.
