President and USDA Deliver Livestock Aid

September 20, 2002 – U.S. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Larry Combest (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding the announcement of $752 million available in assistance to livestock producers affected by drought:

"Use of these funds will provide substantial and timely help for livestock producers who the President points out are unique in having virtually no risk management options available to them. The President and Secretary of Agriculture are directing help that livestock producers can count on in the face of daily pressure to sell-off at distressed prices. I am pleased this help responds in a manner that does not compromise the long term programs of the new farm bill. We look forward to working with the Administration to help all producers hurt by weather extremes in fields and pastures."
