Conaway Commends USDA’s Pro-Innovation Regulatory Updates

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member K. Michael Conaway (TX-11) released the following statement after the United States Department of Agriculture announced a groundbreaking modernization of the biotechnology regulatory framework for agricultural animals:

“Today’s announcement marks a positive step towards ensuring that the United Sates will continue to be a global leader in scientific advancements in biotechnology and that our livestock producers will have the tools they need to prevent animal diseases. Secretary Perdue’s new science-based rulemaking process will solicit public input, and evaluate new regulations based on the potential risk to animal and livestock health, food safety, and the environment. This is terrific news for the future of American agricultural innovation.”
