Lucas Welcomes New Republican Member to the Ag Committee

MEDIA CONTACT: Today, Ranking Member Frank Lucas announced the addition of Rep. Tom Rooney of Florida to the Republican membership of the Agriculture Committee. Rep. Rooney will serve on the Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management and the Subcommittee on Conservation, Credit, Energy, and Research. "I welcome Rep. Rooney to the Agriculture Committee and look forward to working with him. As a member who represents an agriculturally diverse district, Congressman Rooney understands how important agriculture is to both our state and national economies. He will provide the Committee with fresh perspective and will be a strong advocate for our farmers, ranchers and rural communities,” said Ranking Member Frank Lucas.
Rep. Rooney represents the 16th district of Florida. It boasts a diverse agriculture community with dairy, sugar, citrus, fruit and vegetable farmers. Rep. Rooney also serves as a Vice-Chair of the Congressional Dairy Caucus and is a member of the Congressional Beef Caucus.
“Florida, and particularly the 16th district, is one of the largest agriculture producing areas in the country, and our farmers deserve a strong voice in Washington,” Rep. Tom Rooney said. “I am honored to be the only member of the Florida delegation serving on the House Agriculture Committee because a safe and abundant food supply is essential to our country.”
