Last week, the House passed H.R. 3, the Northern Route Approval Act, to allow for the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Rep. Tipton is a member of the following committees: Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Small Business. He is the Chairman of the Small Business Committee's Subcommittee on Agriculture, Energy, and Trade. Click here to listen to The Ag Minute. The transcript is below. "Hi, I’m Scott Tipton, from the Third District of Colorado. "Small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. economy making up nearly 100 percent of all businesses in the nation. Many of those can be found in rural towns and communities, including our own farmers and ranchers. These folks share a belief in an aggressive energy policy that boosts economic growth, creates jobs, and provides a dependable source of North American energy. "Last week, the Republican-led House of Representatives took a step toward achieving greater energy certainty when it passed H.R. 3, the Northern Route Approval Act. This bill would put an end to the Obama administration’s dramatic delays on the Keystone XL Pipeline and allow for its construction and operation. "The Keystone XL Pipeline is estimated to create 20,000 new jobs directly and thousands more indirectly during the project’s construction period. One research study estimates the pipeline would add nearly $200 billion to America’s gross domestic product by 2035. "The reality is building this pipeline makes good economic sense giving our farmers, ranchers, rural constituents, and small business owners all across the country lower energy costs, greater energy security, and enhanced economic opportunity. "It’s time for the president and the U.S. Senate to work with House Republicans and get this pipeline built. Americans have been waiting long enough for Keystone’s jobs and energy."
