Goodlatte Comments on Tobacco Buyout

 - House Agriculture Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) today released the following statement regarding the chairman's mark on the FSC/ETI conference report:

"Last night, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas revealed a chairman's mark on the FSC/ETI conference report. The tobacco buyout legislation, introduced by Congressman Jenkins, was inserted into the FSC/ETI bill and was passed into conference in early September. The bill is expected to make it to the House floor before adjourning on Friday and includes buyout legislation that I believe my colleagues will be pleased with.

I, along with other members of the Agriculture Committee, have worked with Chairman Thomas and conferee members to ensure American tobacco farmers receive a fair settlement. This legislation is a step in the right direction in alleviating some of the burdens faced by domestic tobacco farmers. This is the result we've been working for. I commend Congressman Jenkins, and Congressman Richard Burr, along with other tobacco state lawmakers who have worked diligently toward this end."
