Ag Chairman Combest Views USDA Goals as Consistent with House Farm Bill

USDA document "fully consistent with goals of Farm Security Act" (September 19, 2001) -- House Agriculture Committee Chairman Larry Combest (R-Texas) released the following statement regarding USDA's guiding principles in agricultural policy, made public today: "In the USDA's book, "Food and Agricultural Policy: Taking Stock for the New Century," the Bush Administration has laid out a very comprehensive set of food and agricultural policy principles that will help guide us all toward the important goal of promoting a strong and dynamic agricultural industry for our nation's future. "Having reviewed the document, I am pleased that the principles and ideas put forward are fully consistent with goals of H.R. 2646, the Farm Security Act, which has been passed by the House Agriculture Committee. As the House moves forward, I look forward to working closely with the Administration to make sure our government stands shoulder to shoulder with the American farmer."
