Hearing set for March 18: USDA Secretary Glickman to Account for Farm Disaster Payment Delays

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Larry Combest (R-TX) today announced that at 8:30 a.m. (EST) on March 18, the full Committee will hear USDA Secretary Dan Glickman's account of agricultural disaster assistance delays and the operation of other programs within the Department.

"I will be most interested to hear what Secretary Glickman has to tell the Agriculture Committee regarding the eight months he says it will take his department to deliver last year's weather disaster payments," said Chairman Combest.  "After five months, the Secretary now admits that farmers won't see their checks until June, and then tells us that payments for livestock losses will be much less than producers were led to believe.  Too little, too late is not going to cut it with this Committee, nor with producers whose rural way of life is literally on the dotted line."

The House Committee on Agriculture holds its public hearing with USDA Secretary Dan Glickman in the main Committee Room, 1300 Longworth Building Thursday, March 18.  The hearing will be carried live on the House Agriculture Committee's website  beginning at 8:30 a.m. (EST).
