Agriculture Committee Tackles Major Issues this Week Secretary Glickman to Testify on Ag Trade at Full Committee; Department Operations Subcommittee to Hear Discrimination Complaints

Delving deeper into the major issues confronting America's farmers and ranchers, the House Committee on Agriculture this week tackles two topics in the forefront of Agriculture's policy agenda: the vital role trade plays now and in agriculture's future, and charges of discrimination in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's lending practices. On Tuesday, March 18, the full Committee on Agriculture, chaired by Rep. Bob Smith (R-OR), will hear testimony from Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman on agricultural trade now and into the 21st Century. Chairman Smith has indicated that agricultural trade will be one of the Committee's highest priorities in the 105th Congress. On Wednesday, March 19, the Subcommittee on Department Operations, Nutrition, and Foreign Agriculture, chaired by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), will hold a hearing on the treatment of minority and limited resource producers by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
