2018 Farm Bill
In this week's #FarmBillFriday, Rep. Frank Lucas emphasizes the impact the farm bill has on the lives of all Americans. From providing healthy nutrition for families to protecting the environment, the farm bill plays an active role in everyday lives.
"If you care about the food on your table, if you care about making sure your neighbors have enough to eat, if you care about water quality, air quality, preserving those natural resources, wildlife, if you care about all those things, then you care about the farm bill." Rep. Lucas said [in part]: I am occasionally asked, “Why do we still have to have farm bills? Why do we need a comprehensive farm bill?” Well, every time you sit down for your breakfast, your lunch, or your dinner, you benefit from those farm bills. The most cost effective, plentiful, safest food supply in the history of the world. That’s because of hard-working farmers and ranchers, and oh yes, a comprehensive farm bill that provides them with the tools in order to produce that. I represent the northwest half of the great state of Oklahoma. So, it’s not just making sure that we raise enough food and enough fiber. It’s not just that we make sure the nutrition programs that our neighbors, who might have challenges right now, have the ability to get enough calories. It’s also about protecting the environment. So, if you care about the food on your table, if you care about making sure your neighbors have enough to eat, if you care about water quality, air quality, preserving those natural resources, wildlife, if you care about all those things, then you care about the farm bill. That’s why we work diligently on the House Agriculture Committee to make sure that all of the effort for decades and decades will continue into the future. It’s just too important for ourselves, for our families, our neighbors, our environment. CLICK above to view video. |
