2018 Farm Bill
In this week's #FarmBillFriday, Rep. Jeff Denham (CA-10) is joined by Sec. of Agriculture Sonny Perdue at the World Ag Expo in Tulare, CA where they discuss agricultural research and innovation and the importance of a strong farm bill.
Rep. Denham and Sec. Perdue said [in part]: Denham: Well Mr. Secretary, we are here in Tulare at the World Ag Expo. You and I have had a chance to drive around and see some of the new technology here. What are your thoughts about the show? Perdue: Well, it’s pretty amazing. It confirms what I’ve thought about agriculturists. They’re some of the most innovative and adaptive people there are. Denham: We’ve got an opportunity coming up with not only infrastructure and immigration reform, but we’ve got the 2018 Farm Bill coming up with crop insurance, research for all of agriculture that will help us out with a lot of our pest prevention. Perdue: Well the good news is, I think the farm bill this year will be more evolutionary than revolutionary, and I think awesome, creative ideas in there to be fiscally responsible. Again, we want a good safety net for our producers, certainly for our specialty crops as well, and to make sure they can continue to thrive and profit in a way that allows them to feed a hungry America and a hungry world. |
