#FARMBILLFRIDAY: Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL-16)

In this week's #FarmBillFriday, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) highlights Illinois' vast agriculture industry and notes the various programs within the farm bill that have a direct impact on farmers, ranchers and consumers.

"In 2018, Congress once again has the opportunity to get our food and agriculture policies right in the passage of the next farm bill."

Rep. Kinzinger said [in part]:
Illinois has nearly 27 million acres of farmland and remains a leader in important commodities like corn, soybeans, pork, beef and even pumpkins. Agriculture is a major economic driver in the land of Lincoln, generating around 19 billion dollars a year.

Today, the farm bill not only includes support for farmers, but also important priorities like rural development loans, nutrition assistance for low-income families, support for land conservation and sustainability and programs to export our agricultural abundance to new markets around the globe.

In 2018, Congress once again has the opportunity to get our food and agriculture policies right in the passage of the next farm bill. We need to do this not only for folks like Keith who are farming here today, but also we need to do it for the next generation of young people planning to join the ranks of the hard-working and dedicated agriculture industry across Illinois.

Our nation’s farmers provide millions of Americans with fresh, healthy and affordable food, and now it’s up to Congress to provide them with the certainty and the support that they need.
