Conaway Statement on Bill to Modernize the CFTC

Washington, D.C. – Upon the introduction of legislation to modernize the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) led by Rep. Austin Scott (GA-08), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy and Credit, House Agriculture Committee Chairman K. Michael Conaway (TX-11) made the following statement:

“I want to thank Austin Scott for his work on this important piece of legislation. There is a coming wave of innovation in financial markets and our regulators need new tools to understand and prepare for these changes. Chairman Scott’s legislation goes hand-in-hand with the FinTech priorities announced by CFTC Chairman Chris Giancarlo, who is doing great work reorienting the commission to regulate our increasingly digital derivatives markets. I look forward to seeing how the CFTC engages with the companies building the future.”
