Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue testified before the House Agriculture Committee on the “State of the Rural Economy.” Following the hearing, Ranking Member K. Michael Conaway (TX-11) released this statement: “Between a brutal string of natural disasters, a continued slump in the rural economy, and the impacts of nearly 30 years of predatory trade practices from China, America’s farmers and ranchers continue to face trying times. I’m grateful to Secretary Perdue and his team for all the great work they’ve done, particularly in implementing the 2018 Farm Bill. I’m equally grateful to President Trump for all of his efforts to secure new trade deals and for his promise to stand by our farmers until those new deals fully kick in.“We discussed many important issues facing American agriculture during today’s hearing. By and large, USDA is doing a terrific job of standing by our farmers and ranchers during this difficult time.” |
