Thompson, McHenry, Johnson, Hill Issue Joint Statement on Digital Assets Partnership

Today, the House Agriculture and Financial Services Committees will host dual subcommittee hearings on the future of digital assets. Prior to the hearings, Glenn "GT" Thompson (PA-15), Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, Patrick McHenry (NC-10), Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Dusty Johnson (SD-AL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development, and French Hill (AR-02), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion, issued the following statement:

“It’s clear digital assets, and their underlying blockchain technology, hold real promise. The transformational nature of this technology also creates regulatory challenges affecting both the House Agriculture and Financial Services Committees. Our Committees are embarking on an unprecedented joint effort to pass and sign into law clear rules of the road for the digital asset ecosystem. We must strike the appropriate balance to protect consumers without stifling responsible innovation. This week, we are holding complementary subcommittee hearings to identify regulatory gaps related to digital assets. Next month, we will hold a joint subcommittee hearing to consider ways to close those gaps. We are committed to finding workable solutions that provide much-needed regulatory clarity and certainty, while still adhering to time-tested principles that protect market participants.”
